December 2018 - Ground Breaking Ceremony

On the 5th December pupils and staff at Parklands ET Primary were invited along to join Wilmott Dixon and North Somerset Council for the official 'Ground Breaking’ Ceremony at the schools permanent site, which is due to open during the 2019/2020 academic school year.

Parklands Educate Together Primary School is the first of up to three new primary schools planned by North Somerset Council for Parklands Village on the former RAF Locking base and surrounding land. It will initially have 420 places with capacity to expand to 630 places when required.

"Being able to attend the ground-breaking ceremony was a really exciting and important event for our pupils," said Nicole Ackland, Parklands ET teacher. "We are looking forward to watching our new school take shape and learning all about how schools are made and how we care for our learning environment. In the future we are hoping the children will remember that they were there at the very beginning of the project. Educate Together is working hard with the council to ensure that families already at the school in pre-school, reception and year one, and those joining in September 2019, have a positive experience as the transition between buildings takes place."

The £9m contract to build the new school has been awarded to Willmott Dixon by North Somerset Council. It's part of the investment in the area supporting the council's drive to stimulate growth in Weston by delivering much-needed jobs, homes and services.

In addition to the new school, preliminary construction work has started on the North South Link Road which will form the main link through Parklands Village. As well as providing access to the new school, this road will open up land allocated for up to 1,800 new homes and 2,700 jobs.

"It's vital that the necessary infrastructure is in place to help create strong new communities with the services and facilities they need," said North Somerset Council Leader Cllr Nigel Ashton. "Providing local schools for local pupils is a key part of that."

Parklands received its Ofsted Pre-registration advice note in November 2018. This followed a pre-registration inspection in June 2018. The school met all the required standards and was given approval to open in September. A copy of the report can be found here.
