In our Pre-school class, we largely follow the interests of the children within our termly topics.
We provide child-initiated learning activities in all areas of the EYFS curriculum as well as time for some adult led activities. This will be alongside a variety of thought provoking and interesting continuous provision and provocations that children can self-access in both our classroom and outdoor area.
We share our learning via Tapestry and encourage parents to contribute to their child’s learning journal regularly. This means that children can share their learning with their teachers and friends whilst at pre-school.
Places for the pre-school are available for January 2024.

Welcome to our mixed Y3/4 Black Rhino class!
Hello, I’m Naomi and I am lucky enough to be teaching Rhino class this year at Locking Parklands.
In Year 3/4, our curriculum is enriching, meaningful and active so that our children can become fully immersed in their learning. The children will learn through a series of well-planned and sequenced lessons to engage children in their broad range of learning opportunities.
This year in Black Rhinos, we are covering a variety of fascinating topics including:
Term 1: Respecting Rainforests
Term 2: Rotten Roman Britain
Term 3: Coastal Cousins
Term 4: Wild Weather
Term 5: A Tale of Three Piers
Term 6: Angry Aztecs
Please feel free to look at our topic web as it details the key learning points and vocabulary for our topics this term.
For maths, I am lucky enough to teach all of the Year 4’s for maths this year, while Melody and Megan teach all of the Year 3’s. Splitting the year groups last year was a big success and we look forward to working this way with your children this year.
Our PE slots will be Wednesday. Please ensure your child brings in/wears PE appropriate clothing to school.
Home learning is focused on spellings, developing a love for reading, independent research on our topic of the term, diary and creative writing independently, and times tables practices. They will receive their new spellings on a Friday and have one week to practice these before a test the following Friday.
All children have Times Tables Rockstars logins for them to practice at home. This website, along with www.timestables.co.uk, allows them to be able to practice and improve their knowledge, accuracy and speed when working with times tables. This will ultimately help them when working through their maths topics in class.
Year 4 have their times tables test in June so we advise practicing those times tables as frequently as possible!

< lessAs a parent you’ll know how important the internet is to children – they use it to learn, play, socialise and express themselves. It’s a highly creative place of amazing opportunities.
However the technology children use every day can be daunting and you might worry or not know about the risks your child can face online – such as bullying, contact from strangers or the possibility of them seeing illegal or inappropriate content.
Online Safety is an important part of keeping children safe at all Educate Together Primary schools. We have extensive security measures in place in school, which are monitored both internally and externally, to help safeguard pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material. Any Online Safety incidents are recorded and managed. Online Safety is taught to all pupils explaining and demonstrating how to stay safe and behave appropriately online.
Keeping Your Children Safe Online
We recognise that your child may use technology more than is usual for your family during current lockdown restrictions. We are aware that this can pose problems for families who may not understand the risks children may face when learning or playing online. Please be mindful that school has very strict filtering processes and so if your child is searching at school, inappropriate sites will not be accessed. Please use this time to check your parental filtering to keep your child safe at home too.
Some key websites to help you and your children are:
Childline – for support
UK Safer Internet Centre – to report and remove harmful online content
CEOP – for advice on making a report about online abuse
Internet matters – for support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online
London Grid for Learning – for support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online
Net-aware – for support for parents and careers from the NSPCC
Parent info – for support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online
Thinkuknow – for advice from the National Crime Agency to stay safe online
UK Safer Internet Centre – advice for parents and carers
Please be mindful of the dangers surrounding the video conferencing apps such as WhatsApp, Zoom, FaceTime etc. These are live running apps and can be recorded by the user at the other end. Please take care to ensure that your child is supervised whilst using these to protect them from images and languages that would not normally be accessible in your household. Staff at school will not be using video conferencing apps to ensure all safeguards for children and staff are in place.

We have elected our School Council, with representatives for every class.
The children ran fantastic campaigns to be elected, and well done to everyone.
They are working on a few projects, but their main focus for the summer is to give ideas on improving our lunchtime play.
