PE

Physical Education at Parklands
At Parklands, we’re proud to deliver a fun, inclusive and skill-building PE curriculum using the Real PE framework. Real PE supports every child in developing the fundamental movement skills, confidence, and teamwork needed to enjoy physical activity and sport—now and for life.
Alongside Real PE, we also teach team games, develop sport-specific skills, and encourage healthy competition through events and sports festivals.
Here’s what PE looks like in each year group:
EYFS (Reception) – Exploring Movement Through Play
In Early Years, children learn through fun, active play.
Weekly PE sessions focus on developing balance, agility, and coordination.
Children move through a variety of activity stations, each designed to practise different skills like jumping, crawling, throwing, or balancing.
Sessions are imaginative and story-based to keep children engaged and confident in their movement.
Key Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2) – Building the Basics
KS1 children continue to develop their fundamental movement skills and begin working with others.
Lessons include station-based activities, allowing children to practise a wide range of physical skills.
Introduction to simple rules, cooperation, and teamwork through small games and challenges.
Personal improvement is discussed, helping all children feel successful in their own capabilities
Lower Key Stage 2 (Years 3 & 4)
Children begin to apply their skills in more structured sports and games.
Real PE focuses on creativity, teamwork, and personal challenge.
Pupils learn rules and strategies for games like football, basketball, and tag rugby.
Friendly competition to help build confidence and sportsmanship.
Upper Key Stage 2 (Years 5 & 6)
Older pupils refine their skills and take on leadership roles.
Emphasis on resilience, collaboration, and fair play.
Children enjoy team sports (e.g. netball, cricket, rounders) and fitness activities.
Opportunities for inter-school tournaments, Sports Week, and mentoring younger pupils through the play buddy scheme.

Throughout the year, we also run:
